We have heard of some people’s identity being stolen. Can we really avoid it? Sometimes, we can be victims of it. But there are a few steps where we can avoid it.
First, you have to think first before you use your computer when purchasing items from the net. You have to watch for the safe site at the bottom of the screen, especially before putting personal information into your computer. Make sure that you keep your anti-virus software and anti-spyware updated at all times.
Remember not to give out personal information on the telephone, especially to people you don’t know. You may never be sure if they can be trusted and there is really a need for you to give out such information. It is better be safe than being sorry in the end.
Another thing to protect your identity being stolen is that you never put your mail into your mailbox. It is better that you take in to the post office. This may be a little bit inconvenient for you but just put in mind that it is safer for you. Nowadays, we have to be careful about these things because with the technology constantly changing and improving, we may never know what can happen next. Our identity might be stolen. So, we have to be on guard about it.
Another is look over your credit card bills every month. You have to make sure how much you have purchased and the things you have purchased. Once your credit card bill has arrived, verify the purchase that is posted right away. If, by chance, you don’t see the payments on the bill, call the credit card company right away and your bank as well to follow up on the payment.
There are so many ways by which our identity can be stolen. Another is through our social security, that is why don’t carry it unless you have a reason for bringing it.
Remember to take receipt from the ATM machines. Don’t just throw them away. If you don’t want to keep them, just take time to shred it.
If your ATM or checks are stolen, report it right away. Store any cancelled checks, and new checks in a safe place.
Those are just some of the things you should be on guard to avoid identity theft.
